On February 28, 2017, Mayor Tom Flynn of Sturgeon County and Mayor Nolan Crouse of the City of St. Albert, along with members of their respective Councils, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to begin negotiations on an adjustment to their common boundary.
The MOA sets in motion the formal process for the two municipalities to begin negotiations on the terms of a future annexation of land from Sturgeon County to the City of St. Albert. The MOA sets out the maximum amount of land that can be annexed and the collaborative approach that will be taken.
On June 15, 2017, the City of St. Albert formally submitted its Intent to Annex lands within Sturgeon County. The City of St. Albert will be responsible for landowner and public consultation, and negotiations between the two municipalities will start-up in the coming months, once the City has completed further background research and growth studies. More information can be found on the City of St. Albert's website.
