County Hosts Two Golf Tournaments Supporting Four Local Charities

Sturgeon County Council presented donations to four local charitable organizations, for a total of $29,125 during the regular Council meeting on September 25, 2018.

The funds were raised through generous sponsorships, donations and registrations at the Mayor’s Annual Golf Tournament hosted at Sturgeon Valley Golf and Country Club on Friday June 22, 2018 and at the EMRB Regional Golf Tournament held August 23, 2018 at the Edmonton Garrison Memorial Golf & Curling Club.

Recipients of the Mayor’s Golf Tournament are the Jessica Martel Foundation and West Sturgeon Aging in Place Foundation, both received cheques for $9640.91
The recipients of the EMRB Regional Tournament are Courageous Companions and the Military Family Resource Centre sharing the proceeds of $9,843.63.

The Mayor’s Golf Tournament is an annual event while the EMRB tournament is hosted by a different municipality each year. The 2018 Mayor’s Golf event hosted 138 golfers and the EMRB event hosted 88 golfers.
Both tournaments were organized by the Sturgeon County Corporate Communications department.


Council Approves First Reading of Traffic Bylaw 1419/18

During the regular September 11 Council meeting, Council approved first reading of the proposed Traffic Bylaw 1419/18. The current bylaw in place relating to “Regulating traffic within the boundaries of Sturgeon County” was last reviewed and approved in 2013. As part of regular department activities, reviews of bylaws are undertaken to ensure Sturgeon County’s current bylaw(s) are consistent with recently established Provincial legislation, policies, and procedures.

Once comments are collected and considered, additional amendments may be brought forth to Council for consideration and second and third readings will be scheduled.

Sturgeon County gets creative with Centennial Mosaic Mural Project

Morinville, Alberta - Sturgeon County is looking to the community to help create a Mosaic Mural celebrating Sturgeon County’s Centennial! Participants will be asked to paint an individual tile representing their thoughts about Sturgeon County from their own perspective. Each tile painting will become an important piece of the mural to symbolize the Centennial for Sturgeon County.
