City of St. Albert and Sturgeon County Hold Meeting of Joint Intermunicipal Affairs Committee (IAC)
Meeting held October 31, 2018
The City of St. Albert and Sturgeon County’s joint Intermunicipal Affairs Committee (IAC), consisting of all members of both municipal Councils, held a regularly scheduled meeting on October 31, 2018 to discuss matters of mutual interest.
At the meeting, the IAC approved the 2018-19 Joint Opportunities Task Force Workplan, which addresses intermunicipal opportunities for items like Villeneuve Airport and Ray Gibbon Drive advocacy. The IAC also approved the Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework (ICF) Project Charter and the ICF Task Force Terms of Reference to undertake the completion of a Recreation Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework over the coming months.
During an in-camera session, the IAC discussed a land matter and received an update from the Annexation Negotiating Committee. The City of St. Albert will be hosting public and landowner annexation open houses on November 6 and 7, 2018. More details are available online at stalbert.ca/annexation-sturgeon. Following the in-camera session, the IAC voted to await the outcome of annexation to conduct detailed planning of areas subject to annexation and rescinded the intermunicipal referral process.
This was the third meeting of the two Councils, since the October 2017 municipal election.
“Through our collaboration, we continue to make purposeful strides in areas that will mutually benefit the residents of Sturgeon County and the City of St. Albert,” says Sturgeon County Mayor Alanna Hnatiw.
“The relationship between our two municipalities continues to strengthen,” says Deputy Mayor Jacquie Hansen. “Together we are exploring the various opportunities that continue to present themselves through our focused partnership.”
The next IAC meeting is scheduled to take place on February 27, 2019.
