ICF Committee Reviews Funding Models

Joint Statement: Morinville, AB –Sturgeon County and the Town of Morinville held an Intermunicipal Affairs Committee (ICF) meeting on May 13, 2019 to continue discussions regarding Intermunicipal Collaboration Frameworks (ICF).
The committee is continuing to look at funding models and they were presented with an analysis of recreation and library funding options. Information from the analysis will be shared with their respective Councils and the Task Force committee members will bring feedback to the next meeting.
The Town of Morinville is represented by Mayor Barry Turner and Councillors Nicole Boutestein and Stephen Dafoe. Sturgeon County is represented by Mayor Alanna Hnatiw and Councillor Karen Shaw and Deputy Mayor Patrick D. Tighe.
Under the Modernized Municipal Government Act, municipalities with common boundaries, must, within two years create a framework that:
- Provides for the integrated and strategic planning, delivery and funding of intermunicipal services, such as water and wastewater, solid waste, transportation, recreation and emergency services.
- Stewards scarce resources efficiently in providing local services, and
- Ensures municipalities contribute funding to services that benefit their residents.
