Avian influenza, also known as “avian flu” or “bird flu” is a contagious viral disease affecting respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems of bird populations. Avian Influenza has been detected in Alberta including in Sturgeon County:  Response to detections of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) in Canada 2021-2022
