Voting Opportunities

Voters have more opportunities than ever to vote in the Sturgeon County Division 2 by-election.

Vote in Advance

Advance voting opportunities will be available at Sturgeon County Centre, 9613 – 100 Street, Morinville, AB (Cardiff Room).

Council has passed the Voting Station Bylaw, which allows voters to vote at whichever voting station is most convenient for them. It is an offence to vote more than once in the same election.

Elector Assistance at Home

Electors who, because of physical disability, are unable to attend a voting station or an advance voting station to vote may request the Returning Officer have two election workers attend the elector’s residence to take the elector’s vote.

If an elector wishes to use this service, they will need to contact the Returning Officer to schedule an appointment. The Returning Officer requires the following information:

  • name of the voter;
  • physical address of the residence;
  • telephone number; and
  • the preferred date of receiving elector assistance at home.

The Returning Officer will advise of the specific time election officials will visit their home to administer the vote. When the election official visits their home, the elector will be required to provide identification and complete a voting register that will be provided.

 

Special Ballot

An elector who is unable to vote at an advance vote or at the voting station on election day because of:

  • physical incapacity;
  • absence from local jurisdiction; or
  • being a returning officer, deputy returning officer, constable, candidate, official agent or scrutineer who may be located on election day at a voting station other than that for the elector’s place of residence may apply to vote by special ballot.

Special ballots will be sent to eligible electors mid-August and are due to the Returning Officer by 7:30pm on election day, Tuesday, September 17, 2019.

Special ballots must be requested by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2019
