“What Was Said”


The Town of Morinville approved a business case for the construction of a Community Recreation Facility. Construction of Phase One, which includes an arena and fieldhouse, has begun. Sturgeon County Council needs to make decisions about their investment and support for this facility. Prior to making any further decision Council and Administration undertook a full public engagement strategy to gather public input regarding the Community Recreation Facility Investment.

Between June 6 and July 5, Sturgeon County engaged with residents about possible investment approaches in the Community Recreation Facility. We presented information for residents to consider and discuss to gain as many perspectives as possible from across the County regardless of where you live and what your recreation choices are.

Options for participation included the following:

Six family friendly Drop-In sessions:

  • June 13: 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Cardiff Hall
  • June 15: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at RQB Arena
  • June 25: 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Lily Lake Resort
  • June 27: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Redwater Legion
  • July 3: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Villeneuve Hall
  • July 4: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Edmonton Garrison Family Resource Centre

A “Host Your Own Conversation Kit” which provided an opportunity to invite a group of friends, family, colleagues, community association, or any other group to come together and have your own investment conversations around some key questions.

Next Steps

All the input and data you shared at the meetings and through the surveys will now be analyzed, and a summary report of the engagement activities will be prepared by the consultant. Information will be updated here regularly and participants who shared their emails with us will be informed as new information comes forward.
