Farm Health and Safety Producer Grant Program

The Farm Health and Safety Producer Grant Program offers financial support to eligible employers (must have waged, non-family workers and a WCB account) for eligible costs to improve health and safety in their operations and help them comply with the OH&S Code that takes effect on December 1, 2018.

Legislation

Animal Health Act

This legislation puts in place much of the necessary infrastructure and traceability systems to respond quickly if there are threats of disease outbreaks or other emergencies that could affect animal health, public health, or food safety. Alberta’s Chief Provincial Veterinarian (CPV) has a lead role in animal disease response.

Farm and Ranch Workplace legislation

The Enhanced Protection for Farm and Ranch Workers Act came into effect on Jan. 1, 2016 to extend workplace legislation to farms and ranches. The new rules only apply to farm and ranch operations that employ paid workers. They don't apply to owners or their family members.

Agricultural Operation Practices Act (AOPA)

The AOPA legislation sets out a framework for resolving conflicts between agricultural producers and the public relating to nuisance and disturbance caused by agricultural operations. An agricultural nuisance or disturbance includes things such as odor, dust, noise, smoke. Confined feeding operations (CFO) are also dealt with extensively and in particular, manure storage and handling standards are detailed.

The Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA) is the primary act in Alberta through which regulatory requirements related to air quality is managed. The purpose of EPEA is to support and promote the protection, enhancement and wise use of the environment.

The Agricultural Pests Act enables the Minister's authority to declare an animal, bird, insect, plant, or disease as a pest or nuisance if it is destroying, harming, or is likely to destroy or harm any land, livestock, or property in all or part of Alberta.

Public Hearing - Bylaw 1571-22

Amendment to the Land Use Bylaw 1385/17

In accordance with section 606 of the Municipal Government Act, Sturgeon County Council is requesting public input on proposed Bylaw 1571/22. This Bylaw proposes to amend the land use district of Lot A Plan 4491MC from AG – Agriculture District to REC – Recreational District.

 The Public Hearing will be held both in person and via videoconference:
Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 1:30 p.m.
(or as soon as practical thereafter) at: Sturgeon County Council Chambers 9613-100 Street, Morinville, Alberta T8R 1L9 

Requirements for all Speakers

All Speakers will be given a 5-minute time limit and are encouraged to provide a written copy of their submission in advance of the Public Hearing.

In-person Speakers
If you intend on participating in person, you are encouraged to pre-register for the Public Hearing by contacting Legislative Services at 780-939-8279 or 780-939-8277.

Speakers participating through videoconference

If you wish to speak at the Public Hearing via teleconference, you must register 24 hours prior to the opening of the Public Hearing (no later than April 11, 2022 at 1:30 p.m.) by contacting Legislative Services at 780-939-8279 or 780-939-8277. This is to ensure that virtual participants receive instructions to access the videoconference.

Written Submissions
All interested parties are encouraged to express their views by providing a written submission to Legislative Services by email at legislativeservices@sturgeoncounty.ca. Written submissions will be accepted up to the close of the Public Hearing.

Persons wishing to view the Public Hearing without making a submission are invited to attend in person or view the livestream Sturgeon County website at www.sturgeoncounty.ca/CouncilMeetings. To view the livestream, click on the meeting date on the calendar, then click on the video link.
