Sturgeon County holds first meeting of COVID-19 Recovery Task Force.

Sturgeon County’s COVID-19 Recovery Task Force will hold its first meeting on June 1, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. via teleconference. Council established the Task Force on May 12, 2020 to provide policy and legislative advice to Council respecting Sturgeon County’s social and economic recovery as a result of the adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Task Force will make recommendations to assist residents, businesses, and not-for-profit organizations for the well-being, safety, and resilience of Sturgeon County.

Comprised of members of Council and the public, the Task Force includes Mayor Alanna Hnatiw (ex-officio),
Deputy Mayor Neal Comeau, and Councillors Wayne Bokenfohr, Patrick D. Tighe, and Kristin Toms. The public membership provides representation from a broad range of business and social sectors:

Shawna Bruce is a retired veteran (Army Public Affairs Officer) and a retired National Public Affairs Manager for Dow, where she was responsible for community engagement, community advisory panels, and emergency public information. Ms. Bruce is currently an instructor in Disaster and Emergency Management at NAIT and a public member on the Board of the Northeast Region Community Awareness and Emergency Response (NR CAER) mutual aid group in the Sturgeon region.

Wayne Carey is the Senior Manager of Operations of the Redwater District for Pembina Pipeline Corporation, which includes the Redwater Fractionation and Storage facility (RFS) located in Sturgeon County. As part of his role, Mr. Carey oversees the Pembina Community Engagement and Investment Program for the Redwater District. Mr. Carey is also Chair of the Northeast Capital Industrial Association (NCIA).

Barry Flynn has been involved with Flynn Bros. Projects, located in Morinville, for 45 years. Flynn Bros. Projects is a Canadian leader in grain handling systems and design build construction. Flynn Bros. serves companies across a wide range of industries and locations.

Dan Majeau farms with his brother on their 4th generation farm consisting of crops and livestock. Mr. Majeau has been involved in primary agriculture production as well as future processing and has worked with many boards, including serving as Chair of Alberta Pork and membership in the Canadian Pork Council and Canada Pork International.

Ryan Vestby is the CEO of CompuVision, one of Canada’s largest IT management and consulting firms. Mr. Vestby has a special interest in Disruptive Technologies, which is technology that significantly alters the way that businesses operate. Mr. Vestby sits on the Business Council of Alberta and is an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO).
