Sturgeon County makes Small Business Week proclamation

Sturgeon County, AB - During the October 22, 2019, Council Meeting, Mayor Alanna Hnatiw proclaimed the third week of October of each year as Small Business Week. For 2019, Small Business Week will be October 21 – 25.

“Small businesses are a key component of our community and our economy,” said Mayor Hnatiw. “We are very fortunate to have such a great variety of small businesses providing goods and services to our residents. Proclaiming the third week of October each year as Small Business Week is our opportunity to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit of our residents and is an annual reminder to support our local businesses.”

As part of Small Business Week, Sturgeon County is hosting two regional events: The Business Link Presentation, taking place October 24, and the Mighty Business Breakfast Bash, taking place October 25.

“The Business Link Presentation features Dale Schwab, who will be speaking to “Startup Steps,” a session geared to people who are considering starting their own business,” said Leanne McBean, Business Development Specialist. “Dale’s presentation will provide attendees with information and the steps needed for people to start their own business and what supports are available to them.”

The Business Link Presentation takes place on Thursday, October 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Sturgeon County Centre Council Chambers. Attendance is free but registration is required.

“The second event, the Mighty Business Breakfast Bash, is a new annual event to celebrate our small but mighty regional business communities,” said McBean. “We will have a fantastic breakfast followed by a keynote presentation from Doug Griffiths, who will explain common challenges facing the small business community, and the morning will conclude with a networking opportunity for attendees.”

The Mighty Business Breakfast Bash takes place Friday, October 25, 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the Gibbons Community Cultural Centre. Tickets are $10. Visit for more information and registration for both events.
