Economic Development Week in Sturgeon County, property tax payment options, and open space management

Highlights from the May 11, 2021 Council Meeting

Here are the highlights from the May 11, 2021, Sturgeon County Council Meeting:

  • Mayor Hnatiw proclaimed May 9 – 15, 2021 as Economic Development Week in Sturgeon County in recognition of economic development professionals and the work they are doing in business attraction and retention, expanding career opportunities, and improving quality of life.

  • After considering a request made during their April 27, 2021, meeting, Council denied a request to cancel the 2021 property tax penalties for Tax Roll 2902003. Property owners should be aware that tax penalties are charged on unpaid amounts and more than one penalty will be incurred if a balance remains outstanding after the penalty dates for non-payment.

  • Sturgeon County will be looking to move forward with enhancing outdoor spaces through development of a Five-Year Capital Plan on Open Space Management. The plan will be developed this year for Council discussion as part of the 2022 Budget deliberations. In addition to projects already moving forward in 2021, including the Glory Hills Playground site and Cardiff Park improvements, Councill will be considering other open space projects not to exceed $500,000 at the June 8, 2021, Council Meeting.
