POSTPONED – September 18 Resource Extraction Open House

Due to the rapidly rising rates of COVID-19 in the region, Sturgeon County is postponing the Saturday, September 18 Resource Extraction open house in Redwater.

The event will be rescheduled at a time when all residents feel safe to attend larger indoor gatherings.

Please note that no changes will be made to the current sand and gravel regulations – further consultation on the proposed recommendations is planned, and County Council’s decision on next steps is required before any further action.

“Postponing the sand and gravel open house was an extremely difficult decision, but it’s the right call,” said Mayor Alanna Hnatiw. “As the number of COVID cases continues to climb, we have to think of both the safety and the comfort of our residents and staff to attend public engagements. We heard that an in-person session is important to collect more input, and we will honour our promise. As a decision on the sand and gravel recommendations doesn’t need to be held immediately, we can continue to collect one-on-one feedback and find a new, safer time when everyone feels comfortable gathering.”

Information about the resource extraction review is available at sturgeoncounty.ca/ResourceExtraction. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you would like to meet one-on-one to discuss specific matters, please call 780-939-8275 or email pandd@sturgeoncounty.ca.
