2017 Sturgeon County Roadside Brushing Program

Sturgeon County construction staff continue to work on the brushing program within county Right-Of-Way’s from November to the end of March (weather permitting).

There are a number of reasons Sturgeon County will carry out roadside brushing activities; 1) Safety; 2) Life cycle of infrastructure; and 3) Facilitation of future activities.

A schedule for the 2017 will be forthcoming.

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Hazard to vehicles which leave the road
  • Danger of falling trees
  • Reduce probability of vehicle-wildlife incidents
  • Obscuring warning signs and stop/yield signs
  • Sight distance (at intersections and driveways)
  • Shading of the roadway causing icy sections in winter
  • Overhanging branches damaging maintenance equipment and vehicles • Provision of snow storage area
  • Shading of the roadway causing deterioration of the road structure over the years • Facilitation of roadside mowing activities
  • Facilitation and improvement of drainage activities
  • Preparation for road maintenance projects for the following summer programs

Sturgeon County appreciates your understanding and cooperation and apologizes for any inconvenience that may occur while brushing takes place. It is normal after brushing operations to see small wood chips left behind to decompose in the Right-Of-Way. We attempt to minimize the debris that may land on private property. “Drive with caution, pass with care and please observe Traffic signs. Be Safe!”
