Below is our list of amazing speakers for the first ever Country Living Expo. In addition to our presentations, there will be a kids zone, Johnny's Store, as well as information on Sturgeon County programs & services.

There will also be beef on a bun and refreshments catered by Celebrations Catering. Proceeds will go to Sturgeon Rural Crime Watch.

Common Tree Diseases & Pests

10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

“What’s wrong with my tree?”
Lorraine Taylor with the historic George Pegg Botanic Garden has the answer. She started her career tending to the trees at the U of A’s testing orchard and has since worked for 12 years as a county horticulturalist, inspecting shelterbelts and yard sites. Learn about common Alberta tree insects and diseases as well as, find the answers to your personal tree problems.

Want to learn about keeping bees? Not sure where to start? Sturgeon County’s own Patricia Milligan or as some of you may know her as, Lola Canola will be sharing everything you need to know about small-scale beekeeping.

Well Maintenance

1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Join Ken Williamson, a farm water specialist to learn how to properly and safely maintain your water well. Before retiring from Alberta Agriculture in 2008, Ken was heavily involved with the development of the working well program which is a water well education program for Alberta residents.

Every year Ken leads 25-30 well workshops a year all over the province.

Are you considering raising chickens or enjoy learning tips about them? Join Dr. Frank Robinson from the University of Alberta for an informative talk about proper poultry management. As a respected poultry management/physiology professor Dr. Robinson has a vast amount of knowledge in egg production, feeding, breeding and more.

Growing Unusual Garden Vegetables

3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Susanne Cook has been an avid vegetable grower for over 45 years with a special interest in growing odd and little known items. She has been co-organizing Edmonton Seedy Sunday for over a decade, this annual event has an emphasis on heritage seed preservation and environmentally friendly gardening practices.
