Be mindful of water use

This hot and dry weather is challenging for everyone! The forecast is predicting more of the same tomorrow (July 23, 2024).

Sturgeon County is reminding residents to be mindful of their water use while we’re experiencing this scorching weather. The County needs to ensure that the reservoirs have the capacity for normal operations and for fire protection purposes.

By making small changes in our daily routines, such as fixing leaks, taking shorter showers, and using water-efficient appliances, we can collectively make a significant impact.

Lawn watering

We encourage residents to water their lawns and gardens during the early morning to minimize evaporation. The general rule of thumb for lawn watering is to provide enough water to soak the soil down to the root zone. This can usually be achieved by applying about 2.5 to 4 cm (1 to 1.5 inches) of water which works out to about one hour per week.

Your cooperation is crucial in ensuring that we maintain a sustainable water supply for everyone in our community.

Please check Sturgeon County’s Water Conservation page for more tips on how to conserve water.

Sturgeon County offices will be closed for Monday, October 14. County offices and facilities will re-open Tuesday, October 15 for regular business hours 8:30AM - 4:30PM.
