The Villeneuve Airport (ZVL) is owned and operated by Edmonton International Airport (EIA) and is undergoing a major redevelopment, with recent utility and communications infrastructure upgrades. The Villeneuve Airport Area Master Plan (VAAMP) will assess and define future economic and development potential for the airport and surrounding lands, leading to an Area Structure Plan. Sturgeon County and Edmonton Airports recently signed an agreement to promote economic development of the Villeneuve Airport and surrounding area. The Villeneuve Landing Network (VLN), a regional partnership including Indigenous communities, the Government of Alberta, municipalities, post-secondaries and economic development entities provides a generational opportunity for collaborative economic development, investment and infrastructure support.
Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Edmonton
Located in Sturgeon County, Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Edmonton is mere minutes from Sturgeon Industrial Park (SIP) and Edmonton’s downtown core. CFB Edmonton is home to the “Army of the West”, 3rd Canadian Division Support Group (3 CDSG). CFB Edmonton provides personnel, administrative and technical support, range and training areas needed by other Canadian Armed Forces units and their members along with proximity to both CFB Wainwright and RCAF 4 Wing Cold Lake. Base personnel includes 5,829 regular force members, 403 reservists and 506 civilian employees, nearly half of whom live in our community.
