Sturgeon County Council requests public input on proposed Bylaw 1672/25. This bylaw seeks to amend the regulations pertaining to Data Processing Facilities that were first adopted in 2022.
The amendment proposes to separate Data Processing Facilities into minor and major categories to better mitigate the potential effects of development on adjacent lands. The bylaw also proposes that Data Processing Facility (major) be considered a permitted use within both the I4 – Medium Industrial Serviced and I5 – Heavy Industrial Districts respectively.
The amendments are being proposed to align the County’s regulations with the evolving needs of the data processing industry and the provincial government’s strategy towards data centres.
A bylaw is needed to amend the Land Use Bylaw, and a public hearing must be held.
