On August 25, 2026, Sturgeon County Council approved a rezoning application by Prairie Gardens to support its intensive agritourism business interests. Prairie Gardens now has Agriculture 2 zoning, which allows for additional uses and increased vehicle visits for agritourism.
With this zoning, Prairie Gardens is now required to apply for a development permit. The development permit would require area intersection improvements to safely accommodate 900 roundtrips the business desires to host during special event days. Specific projects may require additional permits and inspections before construction can proceed and final approvals are issued.
Until a new development permit is in place, Prairie Gardens must operate under their current permit, which limits traffic to a maximum of 50 vehicle trips per day for normal operations and up to 199 vehicle trips during special events. If Prairie Gardens completes required intersection safety improvements, it may accommodate up to 900 vehicle trips per day on its special event days.
