Sturgeon County manages about 144 bridge structures, of these 91 are bridge sized culverts, 39 are standard bridges, and 14 are classified as major bridges. The average age of County’s bridges and bridge sized culverts is around 50 years old.
To ensure the safety of the travelling public and to provide continuous access to residents and landowners, this bridge has reached the end of its services life and is scheduled for replacement.
Bridge File (BF) 77414 was identified as a priority crossing due to its age and condition. Rehabilitation and replacement alternatives were reviewed; however, rehabilitation at the site is not practical due to the age, condition and capacity of the existing crossing. The crossing consists of a corrugated steel culvert that is over 51 years old and has reached its expected service life (45 years) for a steel culvert structure. The culvert is in poor condition due to corrosion and perforations of the sidewalls and floor or the pipe.
Recommended replacement includes the following:
- Remove existing structure and replace with 2 – 1.5m diameter CSP culvert, this option is the most economical and recommended option.
