The Public Hearing for Bylaw 1700/25 remains open and submissions can be received until April 28, when Council closes the Public Hearing.
Sturgeon County Council requests public input on proposed Bylaw 1700/25.
An extraction operator wants to amend the setback regulations that were implemented in 2023. While the standard setbacks for resource extraction to surrounding dwellings would remain, there would be no defined setback for a dwelling:
- located on the parcel being extracted
- on lands owned by the operator
- with written landowner consent for a reduced setback
- constructed after the land was redistricted for resource extraction
Proposed change #3 would re-introduce private operator and landowner agreements that were used before 2023.
A bylaw is needed to amend the Land Use Bylaw, and a public hearing must be held.

To speak at the Public Hearing via videoconference, you must register by April 13, 2026 @ 1 p.m. by contacting Legislative and Legal Services at 780-939-8029. This ensures you receive instructions to access the videoconference.
Written submissions
Email your written submission to Legislative and Legal Services at legislativeservices@sturgeoncounty.ca.
If making a written submission, you must include your name, state your interest in the matter (such as a County resident directly impacted by the proposed bylaw), and indicate if you are in favour of or opposed to the proposed bylaw.
