RCMP Roundup: Morinville Detachment – July

Notable activities from the month of July:

July 1: Cpl. Ryan LeMay and Cst. Jason Klipich attended Canada Day celebrations in Morinville, wearing traditional red serge uniforms.

July 4: RCMP responded to three residential break-ins at Sandy Beach. A 31-year-old woman from Edmonton was charged with break and enter, theft, and property damage.

July 8:

  • Police responded to a report of an intoxicated man throwing rocks at security vehicles on the Alexander First Nation. A 38-year-old man was arrested and charged with property damage, resisting arrest, and possession of methamphetamine.
  • RCMP investigated suspicious activity on Township Road 572 in Sturgeon County. Two stolen vehicles—a 2021 GMC Sierra (Grande Prairie) and a 2022 GMC Sierra (Leduc)—were recovered. A 32-year-old man from Barriere, B.C., and a 28-year-old woman from Sturgeon County were charged with possession of stolen property, possession of break-in tools, and breaching release conditions.

July 9:

  • Police responded to suspicious activity near a railyard west of Morinville. Two suspects were caught stealing materials.
  • A 41-year-old man from Edmonton was charged with theft, resisting arrest, break and enter, possession of break-in tools, and breaching release conditions.
  • A 44-year-old woman from Edmonton was charged with theft, resisting arrest, break and enter, possession of stolen property, and possession of break-in tools.

July 21–23: RCMP members participated in the first Youth Emergency Services Academy in Riviere Qui Barre, hosted by Sturgeon County. Officers presented to youth aged 14–17 on RCMP specialties, drills, team building, and physical activities.

July 24: Multiple reports of parcel theft and attempted home break-ins were received in Sturgeon Valley. A 28-year-old man from Maskwacis and a 38-year-old man from Edmonton were arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

July 25: RCMP responded to suspicious activity near a storage facility in Legal. A 37-year-old man from Westlock was arrested and charged with possession of break-in tools.

July 26: Morinville RCMP participated in the Fête au Village parade in Legal, joined by the RCMP ‘K’ Division Pipe and Drum Band.

July 29: An officer conducted a traffic stop at a Gibbons service station. The vehicle, reported stolen from Woodlands County, fled the scene, briefly dragging the officer before crashing. A sawed-off shotgun, methamphetamine, and fentanyl were found in the vehicle. The officer sustained minor injuries. All four occupants were arrested:

  • Driver (42, Onoway): Charged with possession of stolen property, assaulting a police officer, driving while prohibited, drug possession, weapons offences, and breaching release conditions.
  • Female passenger (34, Alexander First Nation): Charged with possession of stolen property, drug possession, possession of a forged document, and weapons offences.
  • Male passenger (38, Red Deer): Charged with possession of stolen property, weapons offences, and breaching release conditions.
  • Female passenger (42, Minburn): Charged with possession of stolen property, three counts of breaching release conditions, and weapons offences.

All Sturgeon County offices are closed Wednesday, July 1, for Canada Day.
