Sturgeon County has a wide variety of parks, playgrounds, trails and open natural spaces to explore. The County does not operate any campgrounds.
Parks
Cardiff Park
Cardiff Park is a day-use park with single-family and group picnic sites, picnic shelters, and fire pits. Gates open at 5 a.m. and close automatically at 11 p.m.
Cardiff Park Pond, situated within the park, is a popular spot to catch rainbow and tiger trout. In the summer you can walk, run or bike along Ribbon Trail. The colder weather turns the park into a great place for winter fun. Visit the Park Skating Trail and check its online status before you go.

Cardiff Park Skating Trail (Closed for the season)
The skating trail is closed for the season.
Sharpen your skates and get your family & friends ready to join us for this free ice-skating adventure! The trail winds through the trees in a full loop, making it accessible for new and experienced skaters. An open ice rink is also available.
- Open daily 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Please note that Cardiff Park is gated and closed daily at 11:00 p.m.; trail status is weather dependent.
- Trail lights are on daily from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- There are no skate rentals available.
- Sturgeon County staff maintain the ice and will clear snow from the skating trail and walking paths before 10 a.m. If snowfall occurs after 10:00 a.m., snow removal will take place the following morning prior to opening.
- The trail is free for everyone to enjoy.

Bellerose Park
Bellerose Park is a neighbourhood park located in the heart of the Sturgeon Valley. The park features a public parking lot, an off-leash dog area, a playground, and a connection to the Bellerose Trail.
Bellerose Trail is a popular path for dog-walkers, with several spots along the trail providing overlooks of the Sturgeon River floodplain, Pinnacle Ridge Trail continues eastward from Bellerose Trail.

Trails
This interactive map shows information about our trails, including the length and level of difficulty. It also shows photos and trail status if there is construction.
Most trails are open for use at any time. The Red Ribbon Trail, which is located in Cardiff Park is subject to Cardiff Park hours (daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.). Trails are open for use year-round. At times, areas may need repairs and will be barricaded as required.
Level of Difficulty
- Easiest – Minimal elevation change over areas of paved or hard footing. Wheelchair accessible.
- Easy – Slight elevation change over areas of paved or hard footing surface.
- Moderate – Defined elevation change over areas of paved or hard footing surface, possibly stairs.
On-Site Parking
Lamoureux Trail, Fort Augustus Trail, Red Ribbon Trail and Bellerose Trail all have identified parking areas that can be found on the printable PDF maps linked in the interactive trail map (Click the trail map to view the downloadable PDF). The remainder of the trails rely on street parking for access.
Trail Ettiquette
- Stay right and yield to slower-moving traffic.
- Share the trail with other users like cyclists, skaters, and walkers.
- Leash and clean up after your pets.
- No motorized or off-highway vehicles are allowed.
- Horses are not permitted on the trails.
Winter Trail and Path Maintenance
Keeping County trails and paths safe and open all winter is a top priority for our Open Spaces and Agricultural Services team. Their snow-clearing efforts ensure residents can enjoy walking, skiing, or exploring the trails and paths throughout the season.
When five centimetres of snow falls on trails and paths, the County begins clearing within 24 hours AFTER the snowfall ends and strives to complete the full network of trails and paths within 72 hours.
