SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING
Declaration of Agricultural Disaster for Sturgeon County
Council formally declared an agricultural disaster for Sturgeon County for 2026, due to excessive wet conditions and crop losses, enabling advocacy for provincial and federal assistance for affected producers.
Council also approved sending a request to the Government of Alberta and the Government of Canada for additional financial support to be provided to Sturgeon County agricultural producers impacted by wet conditions throughout the 2026 growing season.
Council also supported coordination with other rural municipalities in Alberta that have declared an agricultural disaster or have been impacted by excessive moisture to determine interest in coordinated advocacy to the Government of Alberta and the Government of Canada.
