REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING
Public Presentation – Undeveloped Government Road Allowance at Range Road 202 South of Township Road 574
Council referred a presentation regarding the undeveloped government road allowance at Range Road 202 south of Township Road 574 to Administration to present a recommendation at a future Council meeting.
2026 Meeting Calendar Amendments
Council approved the amended 2026 Meeting Calendar as provided in Attachment 1.
Bylaw 1693/25 to Close and Align Portions of Township Road 553A (Boysdale Road) and Range Road 222A (Lamoureux Drive) – First Reading
Council gave first reading of Bylaw 1693/25, the intent of which is to legally close certain portions of Township Road 553A and Range Road 222 that currently crosses into private lands owned by the Canadian National Railway (CN); as shown in the overview map. A public hearing will be scheduled to get public input on the proposed road closure.
Bylaw 1701/25 Century Hills (Formerly Estates of Tuscany) Land Use Bylaw Amendment – First Reading
Council gave first reading of Bylaw 1701/25, the intent of which is to redistrict the land to allow for a proposed multi-lot development as outlined in the Century Hills Outline Plan. A public hearing will be scheduled to obtain public input on the proposed Land Use Bylaw amendment.
Fire Services Agreement with the Town of Morinville
Council authorized the Chief Administrative Officer to execute the Fire Services Agreement with the Town of Morinville for the period of January 1, 2027 to December 31, 2031.
Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission Interim Report
Council accepted the Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission Interim Report as information and appointed Councillor McLennan to attend and represent Sturgeon County at an Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission Interim Report public hearing.
Operator Engagement on Agribusiness and Agritourism Model (Councillor Stang)
Council directed Administration to engage existing and prospective agribusiness and agritourism operators in Sturgeon County to get feedback on the implementation of recommendations from the Agribusiness and Agritourism Review, with a summary report to be presented at a future Committee of the Whole meeting.
Options to Amend Density Requirements for New Development in Sturgeon Calley South Area Structure Plan (Councillor Papadopoulos)
Council directed Administration to bring forward options and implications to Council in Q1 2026 for policy amendments that would lower the maximum and/or overall density requirements for development in Planning Areas 2, 3, 4, 5 in the Sturgeon Valley South Area Structure Plan.

Council authorized Administration to submit the Prioritization of Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) Resolutions for Advocacy resolution to the Rural Municipalities of Alberta.

At Sturgeon County, before Council gets public feedback on a proposed land use bylaw amendment, it gives the proposed bylaw first reading. This does not mean Council supports the bylaw; this allows the proposed bylaw to go to the next stage of the bylaw process, which is gathering public input.
Public hearings, along with other public notices, are promoted on the public notices page on the Sturgeon County website as well as in local newspapers, on social media, and on road signs in accordance with the new Sturgeon County Public Notification Bylaw.
Public hearings are open to any members of the public to view or provide input.
Viewing the public hearing: You can view the hearing in-person or via livestream at www.sturgeoncounty.ca/CouncilMeetings
Making a written submission: you can provide a written submission by email up to the close of the public hearing.
Speaking at the public hearing: you can provide a statement at the public hearing in person or via videoconference. You are encouraged to pre-register to speak in-person at the public hearing. If you wish to speak via videoconference, you must register at least 24 hours prior to the opening of the public hearing. Register by contacting Legislative Services at 780-939-0620.
When considering public input, Council considers how and to what degree the person is impacted by the proposed amendment.
