During a routine inspection by Alberta Transportation, a broken truss was discovered on the Sturgeon County bridge. While Alberta Transportation inspects the bridge, maintenance and capital replacement are the County’s responsibilities. Sturgeon County’s Transportation & Engineering Services department is working with our bridge consultants to assess and create a plan for repairs.
The full extent of repairs needed to safely reopen the bridge are still not known. A contractor will start some repairs in early August. These repairs will allow further inspections to be done, and possible further repairs to be done to reopen the bridge until it is eventually replaced.
The Victoria Trail Bridge opened in 1931 and was scheduled for replacement in 2028.
To detour around this closure, please use Highway 38 westbound, Highway 38 northbound, or Highway 644 eastbound. Detour signs are in place.
