2026 Provincial Referendum 

A provincial referendum will be held on October 19, 2026. The referendum is being administered by Elections Alberta, and citizens seeking information on the referendum are encouraged to visit the Elections Alberta website. Sturgeon County is not involved in the planning or administration of the referendum and is therefore unable to answer specific questions about it.  

Election Sign Guidelines 

In accordance with the Election Act, Sturgeon County does not regulate election signs or election advertisements related to the referendum and will not enforce election signage regulations except as directed by Government of Alberta representatives. 

Under the Election Act and the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act, Elections Alberta is responsible for monitoring the messages on referendum advertising signs and ensuring advertisers include the required authorization statement.Inquiries or complaints regarding the content of referendum election signage should be directed to Elections Alberta at info@elections.ab.ca.  

The Government of Alberta has issued general guidelines on the size, characteristics, and placement of election signs. Third party advertisers seeking to place signs in Sturgeon County are encouraged to follow these guidelines, which are intended to promote public safety. Inquiries or complaints regarding the size, characteristics, or placement of referendum advertising signs should be directed to Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors at robert.lindsay@gov.ab.ca or 780-968-4228. 

Signs placed on private property require the permission of the landowner. Sturgeon County does not allow election signage on County-owned property, and such signs will be removed without advance notice. 

Sturgeon County declares Agricultural Disaster

All Sturgeon County offices are closed Monday, September 7. Offices will re-open on Tuesday, September 8 for regular business hours.
