Wildfire Update 3: Redwater Transfer Station (May 6 at 10:28 a.m.)

Emergency crews have confirmed that the fire at the transfer station near Redwater is under control. Crews have been winding down on scene but will be maintaining a presence to monitor for hot spots. No structures were damaged.

The road is now open for local traffic. The transfer station remains closed.

Please avoid the area to allow crews to continue their work.

Thank you to all the firefighters, Town of Redwater staff, and Emergency Coordination Centre Town staff for all their hard work and assistance in managing this situation. Thank you as well to the local restaurants and businesses for preparing food and beverages for the crew.

Fire risk remains extremely high in the region and the fire and OHV ban remains in place. As of 8:40 p.m. on Friday, May 5, the ban now includes off-highway vehicles (OHVs). Visit sturgeoncounty.ca/fire-ban-may for information on what is and is not permitted during the fire ban.
