Sturgeon County Council has approved its 2026–2029 Strategic Plan, establishing a clear, focused direction for the municipality and the community over the next four years and beyond.
The newly adopted Strategic Plan introduces a streamlined structure designed to sharpen priorities and strengthen the connection between long-term goals and near-term action.
Three Community Outcomes define Sturgeon County’s path over the next 30 years:
- Planned Growth
- Thriving Communities
- Environmental Responsibility
These outcomes represent a focused approach, narrowing the County’s priorities to what matters most for the long-term success and sustainability of the community.
Supporting these long-term outcomes are four-year Council Objectives that outline what Council is committed to achieving by 2029. They serve as the foundation for developing metrics to track progress and ensure accountability. For example, Council identified outcomes based on leadership in economic competitiveness, improved community safety and wellbeing, investment in parks and public infrastructure, higher volunteerism, and more.
“This Strategic Plan provides a clear line of sight from what we are doing today to where we want to be,” said Sturgeon County Mayor Alanna Hnatiw. “By focusing our efforts on what matters to the community and defining measurable objectives, we are setting Sturgeon County up for meaningful, tangible progress.”
The plan is further strengthened by a renewed set of Guiding Principles—accountability, respect, adaptability, and innovation—that will continue to shape how decisions are made, how services are delivered and how relationships are built.
As the highest-level policy direction from Council to Administration, the Strategic Plan will guide how resources are aligned, how priorities are set, and how success is measured.
