Unofficial Results for Sturgeon County Municipal Election

Sturgeon County residents made their voices heard in the 2025 municipal election. Alanna Hnatiw was re-elected as mayor, and incumbent councillors Kristin Toms, Matthew McLennan, Deanna Stang and Jason Berry are also returning for another term. Amanda Papadopoulos was elected in Division 1 and Richard Boissonneault was elected in Division 4. The unofficial results can be found on the county’s election webpage.

“Congratulations to mayor-elect Hnatiw and councillors-elect on their success last night,” said Travis Peter, Sturgeon County’s Chief Administrative Officer. “Our professional administration looks forward to supporting this new council to achieve its priorities on behalf of the community. We’re eager to continue delivering the high-quality and cost-effective services and infrastructure that Council expects, while catalyzing new investment and jobs, creating the conditions for a thriving county.”

This is the first time municipal voters were validated against the Permanent Elector Register at the polls. Votes were hand counted and verified on October 20 in accordance with the Local Authorities Election Act, a process that proceeded without any issues.

“We’re really pleased with how voters were processed in a relatively quick and orderly manner,” said Melodie Steele, the Returning Officer for Sturgeon County. “All indications are that the election process was fair, accurate and transparent.”

Alberta Municipal Affairs will accept and substantiate the results of the election on Friday, October 24 at noon. At that time, municipal election results are made official.

The mayor-elect and councillors-elect will attend a swearing in ceremony at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28 in Council Chambers, located in Sturgeon County Centre,
9613-100 Street, Morinville, AB. The event will be livestreamed on Sturgeon County’s Council webpage.
