Public health advisory – Cardiff Pond (Cardiff Park)

 Ecoli and Enterococci have been identified in high levels in the Cardiff Pond. The higher levels are likely caused by recent heavy runoff and high water levels.

Please take the following precautions:

  • Avoid all contact with the water, including swimming and wading.
  • Do not drink the water.
  • Keep pets out of the water. Do not let them to drink it.
  • It is recommended to limit consumption of fish.
  • If contact happens, wash with clean water as soon as possible.
  • Anyone who feels sick after contact with the pond water should seek medical care.

Cardiff Pond is the larger pond that is located inside Cardiff Park. It is not connected to the Cardiff Stormwater Pond.

Operations Update - July 3, 4:30 p.m.: Water levels continue to drop across the region. Crews are monitoring conditions, pumping water, cleaning up, and assessing roads for reopening. Some roads remain closed and will reopen when it is safe. While the weekend forecast looks favourable, crews will continue to monitor conditions and respond as needed. Residents near Big Lake and the Sturgeon River should remain alert as water levels are still high. Monitor water levels on Alberta River Basins. Please stay well back from riverbanks.

All Sturgeon County offices are closed Wednesday, July 1, for Canada Day.
