Recreational OHV/ATV ban lifted

As of June 3, 2026, the ban on recreational OHVs/ATVs around the Redwater Provincial Recreation Area has been lifted. The previous ban applied to the areas east of Range Road 212 to the North Saskatchewan River and south of Township Road 580 to the North Saskatchewan River.

A recent review confirmed that conditions in the area have significantly improved. Moisture levels have increased, lowering the overall wildfire risk.

Based on this assessment, the temporary OHV/ATV ban in Sturgeon County is being lifted. As the Redwater Provincial Recreation Area is under provincial jurisdiction, information about OHV/ATV use within the park can be found on the Alberta Parks website or by calling 780-922-3293.

Residents and visitors are reminded to continue using caution when operating OHVs/ATVs. Please follow all posted signage and practice safe, responsible riding, including checking for grass/muskeg buildup on hot exhaust components and carrying a fire extinguisher.
