Sturgeon County internet speed testing project

Sturgeon County has teamed up with Alberta’s not-for-profit technology agency Cybera to test residents’ home internet speeds. Our goal is to identify infrastructure gaps and improve internet access for everyone in the community, no matter how remote they are.

According to data collected by the federal government, most residents in Sturgeon County have access to high-speed internet. This testing will help us verify that data.

By better understanding individual households’ internet experiences we can potentially unlock new solutions for Sturgeon County, from helping residents to upgrade their internet plans, to making the case for government funds for improved internet infrastructure.

How does the Sturgeon County broadband project benefit you?

  • By participating in this assessment, you will help identify discrepancies between internet speeds advertised by service providers and actual internet speeds experienced by homeowners. This could lead to potential improvements in service quality for your whole community.
  • The more residents who participate, the more accurate the picture will be of actual internet capabilities in the area, empowering the community to advocate for improved services and infrastructure.
  • Improved internet access can enhance educational opportunities, economic growth and the quality of life in Sturgeon County, benefiting all residents in the long term.

Cybera will provide eligible participants with a $50 Amazon gift card
