Value-Added Energy

Join us in shaping the future of global energy solutions. Sturgeon County has a wide range of opportunities for investment in the value-added energy sector, including the processing and extraction of oil and gas as well as distribution infrastructure development.

As a founding member of Alberta’s Industrial Heartland Association (AIHA), we are excited to introduce the Heartland – an expansive 582 kilometer industrial energy cluster. Recognized as the largest hydrocarbon processing center in Canada and globally, this vibrant hub reflects a staggering $45 billion in industrial investment. One of the world’s most attractive locations for chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas investment.

County lands within the Heartland have been pre-zoned I5, Heavy Industrial, to accelerate development of this important industry within our borders. Access land ready for value-added energy projects with advanced cluster and pre-built CCUS infrastructure.

Access an industry ecosystem of more than 40 companies providing fuels, fertilizers, power, petrochemicals and more to provincial and global consumers.

Within the Heartland lands is a Designated Industrial Zone (IH-DIZ). It will stimulate new investment and job creation while achieving environmental outcomes. Facilities in the IH-DIZ benefit from:

  • Consistent, coordinated regulatory approvals.
  • Shared access to infrastructure and resources.
  • Minimized cumulative environmental impacts through participative governance of the zone.
