Sturgeon County peace officers and the RCMP provide bylaw enforcement and policing services to the area and its citizens.
Bylaw/Peace Officers
Peace officers patrol communities and respond to complaints. Enforcement Services ensures County bylaws – such as the Animal Control bylaw, Dog Control bylaw, Regulation of Traffic bylaw and Community Standards bylaw – are followed by residents, businesses and visitors.
Enforcement Services also enforces provincial legislation, such as the Traffic Safety Act and the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act. This includes educating and issuing violations for speeding, seat belt infractions, and vehicle weights and dimensions.
Peace officers respond to a variety of complaints, including the following:
- animal control
- parking
- school or playground zones
- unsightly or nuisance properties
- noise
- off-highway vehicles
- development compliance
RCMP
The RCMP are responsible for responding to and investigating all criminal matters, including the following:
- vehicle collisions
- theft and home invasions
- drug-related crimes
- organized crimes
- economic crimes such as counterfeiting and credit card fraud
RCMP can help you with fingerprinting, getting a criminal record check or vulnerable sector check, and reporting a collision.
