Council passed the Resource Extraction Bylaw 1607/22, which reflected a change to a ‘split setback model’ based on commodity type in the Resource Extraction (RE) district, the addition of a new Direct Control (RE DC) land use district that supports a more specific consideration of land characteristics and the potential for a lower setback, increased operator communication requirements with residents, and new operator performance measures to better protect local economic, environmental, and quality of life considerations.
Council also approved a Public Communications Plan related to the implementation, and further directed Administration to circulate a draft Resource Extraction Direct Control Evaluation Policy to stakeholders (in addition to other policies under development) for comment prior to final Council consideration.

The next Sturgeon County Council meeting will be held on July 18, 2023, starting at 9 a.m., before taking a summer break. The next meeting will be August 22, 2023, at 9 a.m.
