Fire restriction lifted in Sturgeon County

Effective at noon on May 21, a fire restriction is no longer in effect for Sturgeon County and the towns of Bon Accord, Legal and Redwater. Sturgeon County thanks the public for its cooperation during the fire restriction.

All previously issued fire permits that have not expired have been re-instated. Individuals can apply for fire and fireworks permits; permits are available online, by calling Protective Services at 780-939-8400 or contacting a councillor. Residents are asked to be patient when applying for fire permits for yard and garden debris, burn barrels, and low- and high-hazard firework permits. Permit applications are processed in the order they are received and we strive to review and approve permit applications within two business days.

You do not need a fire permit for a fire in an approved firepit for recreation, cooking, or warming purposes, but must always stay with the fire.

Sturgeon County urges the public to continue using caution when burning, to follow burn permit conditions and to be careful when performing hot work activities that produce sparks or flames. Motorists and OHV/ATV users are reminded to be cautious when operating in grassy areas and to keep vehicles clean and free of debris as smouldering debris can start fires.

Residents are encouraged to take action to prevent wildfires and prepare for wildfires. This includes making simple choices when maintaining your property, landscaping your yard, or undertaking a renovation or construction project. View our tips to make your home FireSmart
