Following an extensive national executive search, Mayor Alanna Hnatiw and Council are pleased to confirm Travis Peter as their new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for Sturgeon County.
The CAO is Council’s sole employee, chief advisor, and is responsible to lead the professional administration of the County’s policies, programs, and services. Mr. Peter has been the County’s Interim CAO since October 2024.
“We are thrilled that Mr. Peter will serve the County as its CAO. His leadership style, breadth and depth of leadership experience, and proven record of success will serve this community well,” said Mayor Hnatiw. “We are confident that he is the right choice to lead Sturgeon County’s administration and strategic interests into its bright future ahead.”
Mr. Peter most recently served in an executive position overseeing the County’s growth and investment priorities, and has an extensive public and private sector leadership background across numerous disciplines.
“I’m sincerely honoured to serve this organization and community going forward as its CAO,” said Mr. Peter. “Council is embarking on some remarkable initiatives and seeks to showcase Sturgeon County as both a highly competitive place to invest and a safe, attractive place to live. Our talented team is laser focused on delivering on each of those important priorities.”

Travis Peter is a nationally recognized leader with decades of diverse public and private sector management experience. His primary mission has been to champion engaged, highly competitive, and thriving communities.
Travis boasts leadership experience within municipalities of all sizes and types, in addition to management consultancies, non-profit associations, provincial government and ministerial offices, and fortune 500 companies. Travis has also served as an expert advisor to other governments, and a trusted member on several non-profit boards.
Committed to life-long learning, Travis holds a Masters Degree from the University of Victoria, an undergraduate degree from the University of Alberta, and advanced leadership training from Harvard University, the University of Dalhousie, Simon Fraser University, Grant MacEwan University, and others. Travis is also professionally designated as a certified local government manager.
For his efforts Travis has also been fortunate to receive significant recognition. This includes selection as one of Canada’s top 10 municipal innovators, a “Top 40 Under 40” leader, in addition to academic distinctions, mentorship awards, and more.
