Budget 2026 Survey results are in and it’s official—Sturgeon County residents love where they live. This is one of the key takeaways from Sturgeon County’s most recent Budget Survey, which saw 673 residents share their thoughts and suggestions for the 2026 Budget, which will be debated in the fall. That’s a five-fold increase in participants over the previous survey, held in 2022.
“I’m truly encouraged by the number of Sturgeon County residents who are stepping forward to share their perspectives and help guide our budget priorities,” said Mayor Alanna Hnatiw. “Your input shows a real commitment to our community’s future and a shared desire to make Sturgeon County an even better place to live and work.”
Survey results revealed a full 91 per cent of respondents are satisfied with Sturgeon County as a place to live. The results also showed that more respondents felt they receive good value from their taxes than those who do not. According to respondents, the top-ranked services delivered by the County are winter and summer road maintenance, as well as waste management services.
The results also suggest some areas for improvement, including strengthening resident involvement with the County’s decision-making process, continued improvement of road infrastructure and more community amenities.
“In terms of where we can improve, the survey results will help inform decisions on where service levels can be adjusted to help focus more specifically on areas that residents feel need more attention,” said Mayor Hnatiw. “I’m looking forward to the Budget 2026 process and seeing how we can reflect resident feedback from this survey in that plan.”
The following were ranked as the top three priorities among respondents:
- minimizing future tax increases;
- investing in new and improved roads; and,
- maintaining long-term financial sustainability.
