Sturgeon County Mayor receives Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal

Sturgeon County Mayor Alanna Hnatiw, along with other rural mayors and reeves, received the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal at the Rural Municipalities of Alberta fall convention held Nov. 7 – 10, 2022, in Edmonton.

“I was honoured to be recognized along with my fellow elected officials,” said Hnatiw. “Receiving this medal initiated a moment for me to reflect on my personal experience in serving Sturgeon County. It also gave me a greater appreciation for the lifetime commitment of Queen Elizabeth II and many others who commit their lives to serving their communities and beyond.”

7,000 Albertans will receive the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal throughout 2022 in recognition of their significant contributions to the province.

Mayors and Reeves from across the province were nominated for the award for their outstanding contributions to the betterment of their municipalities.

Hnatiw was first elected in 2017 and is serving her second term as Mayor.

Sturgeon County facilities will be closed on Monday, September 30 to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
