Council passes Diversified Agriculture Bylaw

Council gave third and final reading of the new bylaw that will regulate Diversified Agriculture in Sturgeon County. As part of the discussion, Council approved the Agribusiness and Agritourism Implementation Communications Strategy, which focuses on providing agricultural producers, agritourism and agribusiness operators, neighbours, and the community about the new bylaw and how it can impact them.

As part of the conversation, Council authorized the Mayor to pursue a resolution to the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) requesting a provincial review of agribusiness and agritourism regulations, including consideration of provincial requirements that may serve as an impediment to an agricultural producer’s transition into diversified agribusiness activities.
