Water Truck Fill Stations

Truck fills (bulk water stations) provide potable water to customers who do not have direct water service. To protect water quality, water hauling containers should only be used for potable water.

Alcomdale Residential Water Station.

The Alcomdale Residential Water Station is the next phase following the utility pipeline project, which was initiated to address the community’s 2013 boil water advisory.

In 2016, the project received 90 per cent of its funding through a joint federal–provincial grant, supported by the Federal Clean Water and Wastewater Fund and the Provincial Water for Life Grant. The remaining 10 per cent was contributed by Sturgeon County.

The grant came with specific requirements, including restrictions on the size of the water receiving station. As a result, the station was only constructed to manage the water needs of the hamlet’s utility.

The purpose of the Alcomdale Residential Water Station is to provide reliable, residential access to clean, safe water.

The station has a total capacity of 100 cubic metres. Each “fill” is limited to five cubic metres per account holder per day, which was determined to be a typical amount for regular household use and transport.

While the station was designed to meet the needs of local residential users, Sturgeon County understands that larger-volume customers may be disappointed by the limited capacity and acknowledges their concerns.

The County is considering the Bulkwater Station as Phase 1 of the Alcomdale Residential Water Station. Over the next year or so, Sturgeon County Council will evaluate the usage at the facility to determine if there’s a business case to expand the facility to accommodate higher traffic.

Those who require with higher-volume needs can access the Truck Fill locations south of Alcomdale at Riviere Qui Barre or Villeneuve.

The Alcomdale Residential Water Station in Operation

The reservoir holds 100 cubic metres of water. Once the reservoir drops to 50 cubic metres, the station will automatically shut down to refill. This process could take up to six hours depending on flows available.

To ensure that the station’s status is readily available to users, the County will use several methods to share updates, including signage at the site and notifications on the County website

Large round lights (similar to traffic lights) will be installed near the station and will be visible from the road. A green light will indicate that the station is open, red will be lit when the station is closed for refilling.
