RCMP Roundup: Morinville Detachment

Notable Activities from the month of May:

RCMP Morinville Detachment has partnered with Town of Morinville Municipal Enforcement and Sturgeon County Municipal Enforcement to launch the Sturgeon Regional Positive Ticketing program. This program was rolled out on May 1, with officers issuing positive tickets recognizing youths who demonstrate good citizenship, such as helping others, following safety rules, volunteering, or showing acts of kindness. Each ticket is attached to a gift certificate that can be redeemed for a treat at a local vendor or shop. During the month of May, approximately 250 tickets were handed out to local youths!

On the morning of May 10, members of Morinville RCMP were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 2 north of Morinville. Police stopped a motorcycle travelling southbound at a speed of 220 km/hr. The driver, a 23 year-old man from Clyde, was stopped and arrested at the scene. Police also seized the motorcycle he was driving. The suspect was brought before a Justice and released to appear in Morinville Provincial Court on May 29. The matter has since been adjourned to June 26.

On May 12, Morinville RCMP arrested a 25-year-old man caught breaking into a residential property on the Alexander First Nation. The suspect has been remanded into custody and will appear in Morinville Provincial Court on June 5 to face charges of break & enter and mischief.

On the night of May 17, Morinville RCMP arrested two youths who were stealing items from vehicles parked in a residential area in Morinville. Charges of theft and mischief are pending against a 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy.

On May 21, Morinville RCMP responded to a report of suspicious activity in Gibbons and arrested two suspects in possession of a vehicle that had been stolen in St. Albert. The suspects were also in possession of stolen identification and credit cards from Edmonton. A 27-year-old man from Bonnyville is facing seven theft-related charges and a 32-year-old woman from Edmonton is facing six theft-related charges. Both were brought before a Justice and released to appear in Morinville Provincial Court on June 12.

On May 23, Morinville RCMP responded to an early-morning alarm at a commercial property south of Gibbons. A 47-year-old man from Stony Plain was arrested in possession of a truck that had been stolen from Edmonton. The suspect was released from custody and will be appearing in Morinville Provincial Court on June 26 to face charges of possessing stolen property.

The proposed Budget 2026 for Sturgeon County has been tabled.
