RCMP Roundup: Morinville Detachment – September

Notable activities from the month of September:

On September 7, Morinville RCMP responded to a theft complaint from a business in Calahoo. The suspect fled the scene but was arrested soon after in a vehicle stolen from Sherwood Park. A 33-year-old woman from the Alexander First Nation has been charged with theft and possession of stolen property. A 28-year-old man from the Alexander First Nation has also been charged with possession of stolen property.

On September 8, Morinville RCMP located two suspects in possession of a stolen truck on Range Road 242, west of Bon Accord. The suspects were stripping parts from the vehicle at the time and attempted to flee from police but were quickly arrested. A 29-year-old man from Edmonton and a 39-year-old man from Morinville have both been charged with possession of stolen property, property damage, and failing to comply with previous release conditions. The 39-year-old suspect has also been charged with resisting arrest.

On September 10, Morinville RCMP responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle on Township Road 540, south of Villeneuve. Police arrested two suspects who were in possession of a truck and trailer stolen from St. Albert. An all-terrain vehicle stolen from Edmonton was also located, along with a taser and numerous items believed to be used to break into properties. A 27-year-old man from Leduc and a 47-year-old man from Stony Plain were both arrested and charged with several counts of possessing stolen property, possession of break-in instruments, weapons-related charges, and failing to comply with a probation order.

On September 11, Morinville RCMP arrested a man who had intentionally set a grass fire in the ditch of Highway 2, north of St. Albert. A 39-year-old man from Montreal Lake, Saskatchewan, was arrested and charged with arson.

On September 17, Morinville RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in Bon Accord following a report of a disturbance in that area. Multiple drugs, including fentanyl, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and unstamped cigarettes were seized, along with a shotgun, taser, prohibited magazines, and three stolen vehicles. A 38-year-old man from Bon Accord and a 30-year-old man from Bon Accord were arrested and charged with drug possession, drug trafficking, possession of stolen property, weapons-related charges, and failing to comply with prior release conditions.

On September 22, Morinville RCMP responded to a pickup truck that had rolled into the ditch on Highway 28 near Bon Accord. Police arrived and found that the vehicle had been stolen from Calgary and the driver had fled on foot into a nearby field. The suspect was soon arrested with assistance from police dog services. A 34-year-old man from Edmonton has been charged with impaired driving by drug, dangerous driving, driving while prohibited, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, failing to remain at the scene of an accident, and two counts of failing to comply with prior release conditions.

On September 30, Morinville RCMP stopped a car in the parking lot of a business in Gibbons. Five occupants were arrested after officers observed illegal drugs, including crystal meth, in the vehicle. A further search of the vehicle located open liquor, a sawed-off rifle, several knives, and tools believed to be used for breaking into properties. A 32-year-old woman from Lac La Biche, a 34-year-old man from Edmonton, a 34-year-old woman from Kikino, a 37-year-old man from Buffalo Lake, and a 40-year-old woman from Buffalo Lake have been charged with numerous drugs and weapons-related charges, possession of break-in instruments, obstructing police, identity fraud, and failing to comply with previous release conditions.

The proposed Budget 2026 for Sturgeon County has been tabled.
