Recreational OHV/ATV Ban in place

Effective May 23, 2025, a recreational OHV/ATV ban is in place for the following area within Sturgeon County:

  • East of Range Road 212 to the North Saskatchewan River
  • South of Twp 580 to the North Saskatchewan River

This ban is in place to ensure firefighters can continue their work safely and effectively, and to respect the private property of landowners in the area as they repair damage sustained from the Redwater Recreation Area wildfire incident. The ban applies to recreational use of OHVs/ATVs only and does not apply to resident use on private property.

This ban will be strictly enforced. The fine for ban violation is $500. To report a violation, please contact 780-939-8418.

The ban will be in place for the foreseeable future, as fire crews work towards fire extinguishment and residents work on recovery efforts. The ban will be lifted when it is safe to do so.

The public is reminded that the Redwater Recreation Area remains closed by Alberta Parks until further notice. We thank you for your assistance in keeping everyone safe by respecting the OHV/ATV ban and all road closures, and by not entering burned areas. Failing to obey a park closure order may lead to a fine and a mandatory court appearance.

A fire restriction remains in place for Sturgeon County.

The Redwater water truck fill station will be closed on May 27, 2025 from 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM.

A fire restriction is in effect for Sturgeon County and the towns of Bon Accord, Legal and Redwater as of May 21, 2025.
